When
I invited Zaneta Vangeli to realize an independent video project with
Macedonian Television, my main preoccupation was to select a competent
television crew, one that would be capable of “moving” professionally
along the main “artery” - the author. I think I succeeded. It
was not at all my intention to make suggestions, as I usually do, because
of the simple reason that I already knew all of her video works. She came
with a script for a short video, narrative and technical structure
elaborated, precise, descriptive and with dialogue. But our first
intention for “The Judge” to be a 20 minute experimental short fell
into water, because the creative sensitivity of Zaneta offers more... much
more. And that is how “The Judge” - after years - became complete now. The
visual structure of “The Judge” is accomplished through several film
levels, breaking the universal “gravitation” towards shooting, editing
and perceiving. The story is well-known, and the method of narration is
different, somewhat unusual, based on a new “architecture” of
dialogue. In
this experimental feature appear idealists and materialists, professionals
as well as passionate natural born talents, renaissance enlighteners and
outstanding reformists, up to small compact elites, which govern according
to their worldview, with the... obedient, the disobedient... the
territories... somewhere there, precisely designing the tangents along the
already drawn meridians on their globuses...

Vangeli “saw” all of this in 1996. She has now prepared it for you...
”The Judge” is an outstanding professional experience for me. Although
the tolerant philosophies repeat daily that not everything is black and
white, she “here” and “at this point” organically agitates. This
black and white world is not real, and has no dimension, that's why it is
clearer, that is why it is more real, even more than art. Now
when I watch this feature as a video product, it is impossible not to
recall the conditions and the non-conditions in which it has been
realized. But that is, believe me, another feature, an interactive one,
with backstage stories, human, real, with genuine “surgical” incisions
and spiritual “bloodshed”. And
while you are watching the author's “breath” laid back with a cool
ease, those from the crew in Skopje, Frankfurt, Boston, Providence and New
York sitting in the sixth, or sixty-sixth row, tell Zaneta their story
with the same title “The Judge”. Pay attention to them too, they don't
know if they are: "people
who dream that they are butterflies, or butterflies who dream that they
are people."
Political
correctness doesn’t function here any more, or everything is part of the
global ritual of phantoms and marionettes. Dreams are reality only for a
fraction of humanity, much smaller is the number of those who write them
down. Whenever anyone thinks of the truth, they always conceal it. The
secret of black vis a vis white is the ultimate mystery, or like, such as
in one part of the movie a quite decent gentlemen will say:
All corners of my room are filled with small cameras, so small and
sensitive... As if they were somebody's eyes. Maybe those are exactly the
eyes of the big cosmic “Judge”, Who is a wanderer at one time, at
another a top chess player... The evil is defeated, thanks to the patience
and skilful hands of the artist... And, the judgement... Remains to be
