This is a very personal project of mine; dealing with the social community I myself am part off – the apartment block where I live. It’s a kind of a documentary piece on the building’s tenants (without excluding my family and me), but without us (tenants), actually appearing in it, but instead showing the facilities that we all commonly use and share, like staircases, corridors, cellars etc., the spaces where we meet, interact and leave traces, as a way to individually influence and change it in accordance to our needs. This visually represented material is accompanied with texts, “small talk” about various tenants’ acts. Out of this entire research of my neighborhood one can make personal conclusions and speculations on the functioning of one complex social system as one apartment block is. This is a part of a greater idea I continuously work with, and that is representation through absence - setting the surroundings so one can feel that something or someone very important is missing. On the other hand by traces left there a unique, different for every viewer, mental picture of the missing part is suggested.
