In the framework of the exhibition "Extension of the frame: New Macedonian Photography", curated by Ms. Sonja Abadzieva Dimitrova (granted by SCCA - Skopje) in Bitola, on 29.05.98, SCCA - Skopje, organizes a Round Table on the theme:

New Macedonian Photography?

The theme of the round table has for an aim to research the aspects of the presence, use and treatment of the photographic medium in the framework of the recent art creation in Macedonia. The same has for an aim to point out also to the experiences, i.e. the interpretation of such a presence on the international art scene. The comparative approach to these two scenes could toss a certain new light to this more presently dealt with medium in our environment.

New Macedonian Photography: Extension of the Frame

This exhibition of the New Macedonian Photography intends to clearly aim at the appearance and development of a different attitude and treatment of this medium in the Macedonian fine-artistic space through different discourses of the presented artists and art works. The phenomenon of opening up and extending of the ranges of this field, indicated more explicitly in the second half of the eighties in Macedonia, has been up-to-know partially represented in the context of group or solo presentations of Macedonian artists in the country or abroad. This is an attempt for a more comprehensive presenting and securing of a more equated treatment in relation to the other visual arts (painting, sculpture, graphics, installation), taking into account also the dominant position of this medium on the current international scene.

One of the motifs of the exhibition is unification, presentation and urging of the authors that already work on the new orientation of photography, opening up the process of its transgression in new visual and conceptual forms.

A premiere presentation in the Art Gallery in Bitola, and next in Kumanovo, is in the function of animation also of other Fine Art Centers in Macedonia, more precisely in Bitola - a city with a stable tradition in this region - commencing from the activity of the Manaki Brothers, up-to the regualar presentation of Zagreb's international photographic Salon.
