Understanding
Balkans as Balkans understands itself
As
rich and prolific as they are, history and culture of Balkan
peninsula, have influenced the World history and culture in the
most decisive way. Still, for some reasons, The Balkans is synonym
for backward region. The predominant stereotypes for
"understanding" the Balkans, are: 1. Dictate not within
but out of the Balkans; 2. They perpetuate negative picture of the
Balkans.
It
is indispensable to change the matrix of understanding of the
Balkans, by introduction of the factor of self-understanding, and
replacing with it the predominant outsiders prejudices.
